It’s been such a long haul, as I’m sat here right now, It’s not lost on me that over a year has passed since we decided as a family that we were ready to list our house and look for a new place to call home.

The irony being that if someone had said back then it would take that long, we definitely wouldn’t have gone ahead. I have always been grateful to have had my Craft Room, I know others aren’t as fortunate and occupy kitchen tables and corners of a bedroom, but I knew that in our new home having a space downstairs was a priority for me.
I’m far enough along in life to understand that my wiring isn’t the most efficient, culminating in my tendency to have the focus of a goldfish! My upstairs Craft Room had in my head felt more like a play room rather than a workspace and so I struggled to take myself seriously and would head down to do a chore and become distracted. Because I knew this I avoided setting myself goals as I felt I would fail. The idea of having a space where I could make a cuppa & then stroll back to my desk without losing focus really made me feel like I might actually stay on task.
We’ve lived in new builds for over 20 years and we knew we wanted to escape the more built up city feel, I had this idea that an older property with internal brickwork and a log burner was the vibe we should be looking for, and for a while that’s where the focus was. Imagining some outbuilding or garden room craft space! Until we saw a house that was only a few years old, quite similar size to our current home, but had a couple of downstairs areas that could work for both me and Hubby to have our own work spaces. The garden was a better shape than our current one, but it was in an estate, all be it a small one. A 20 minute drive from my Mum’s house (she’s on her own now so that was our commute time) The house was on the edge of the green space, with a farmer’s field as part of the view, and so it was decided this was the one!
So here we are all moved in – I’ll spare you the tantrums and drama that happened getting from A to B but we are just under 2 months in and we all are feeling so much better.

Hearing the birds and not much else is so wonderful, we’ve had to get used to some countryside smells, but actually they have become comforting, if that makes any sense? My workspace well that’s a funny story I’ll save for next time with a few photos of how I”m storing things because we all know that craft storage is a whole different hobby!
To finish I just wanted to say that my nervous system has calmed to the point where I’ve even dropped a few pounds??!!!! Without even trying! It’s really made me aware that when we are in a state of stress we really are not allowing the systems in our bodies to work properly, supporting us to feel healthy. Even Molly our dog seems calmer and happier!
I’ll be back soon with some craft room photos.
