Finding The Silver Lining

Living on the outskirts of a city has always felt just right, however, with the current health crisis I find myself wishing that we were a little more rural. Walking Molly is fine on my usual rouite generally but it does feel like many people are not really heeding the advice and there are many people going about business as usual, which is quite a worry. The new normal will soon be established I’m certain and I am seeing the opportunities for more time to connect with both my household, and myself. More time for them and my own needs that will be beneficial to us as a family.

I’m looking at my opportunities to learn, I had joined some creative treaining that I wasn’t fully utilising, plus there are many courses available online that I will have more time to access.

There is always an opportunity to grow, I of course feel concerned for members of my family and friends that have health issues and fall into the high risk group, but by staying at home and following the guidelines and using this time wisely it gives me more of a feeling of control for not only my own wellbeing but those I care about too.

We have sunshine here in Bristol today and the signs of Spring are visible from my window, there are always things that remind us that we have to carry on. This said I have been making cards in a different way in the last week or so, the idea came from a US demo called Meg Loven. She makes what she refers to as Designer Series Paper (DSP) card base cards and I loved this idea. I am a self confessed DSP hoarder and am a member of the Love it Chop it brigade, but this goes even further than just creating card front layers, this is where the whole card is created from DSP – GENIUS!

These cards feature the ‘Come Sail Away’ DSP and Memories & More Card Pack and the ‘Bird Ballad’ DSP matching Stamp Set ‘Free As A Bird’. I’ve used sentiments suitable for thanks and appreciation, as I believe these are the cards we will be sending over the coming weeks as we all look after one another and show eachother grace and kindness.

The inside looks nice too a space to write and this whisper white card layer adds a sturdiness to your card.

These products were made to co-ordinate together and as I don’t own the Sailing Home stamp set (though I love it!) but a girl can’t have everything now, can she?? I used the cards and stickers from the Memories & More pack to assemble these. Here are the directions for the basic card base made from the DSP, and these are the exact way that Meg makes the card bases.

  • Taking your 12×12 inch DSP sheet cut it into 3 sections at 4 inches each making sure that your pattern on your double sided paper is running horizontal on the section that will be 12 inch after making your 4 inch cut.
  • Score at 11 inches then again at 5 1/2 inches again checking the orientation.
DON’T FORGET!!!!!!!

Stay safe, stay home and craft!
