1st Fancy Fold Project
I’ve been involved in a few tutorials and blog hops recently that called for Fancy Folds and I thought and thought about what I would like to demonstrate and ended up creating a lot of prototypes as I really couldn’t make up my mind. The great thing about this is that I get to share lots of ideas here on my blog featuring these fancy folds. Some of them are simple and some a little more involved. there’s even a card fold that includes an attached treat holder.
So I’m kicking off what will be a series of blog posts with:
The Tent Fold Card
This card style is one of the simpler makes and is suitable for many occasions it can be made square or rectangular but does not have an opening flap, so I write my message on the back of my card with this particular fancy fold.
Here I have used one of the Hand Penned Memories & More Card Bases the card is Pool Party in colour and features a delicate spot in the background. This creates a lovely soft background for my Wintery Birthday Card, using the gorgeous new Penguin Place stamp set from the soon to be live Winter Catty. The oh so cute Polar bear was fussy cut from the coordinating patterned paper available for FREE during Sale-a-Bration in August & September with a £45 spend. The paper Penguin Playmates features some gorgeous colours including Misty Moonlight, Just Jade, Fresh Freesia and a cute fox in Calypso Coral. The characters feature on one side of the paper with some amazing spots, stripes and other subtle patterns on the reverse. Dis you spot that shimmery flash of shine at the bottom of the card? Well this is another SAB FREE product it’s called ‘Be Dazzling’ and OMG it is dazzling 6 x 6 inch paper and a little goes a long way when adding that little touch of luxury.
This version uses a Misty Moonlight card base, and features the Sweet Farewell stamp set for the boats and the sentiment. I combined 2 dies to cut my window on this card I firstly used a label die from the soon to be released Seasonal Label Dies and then I used a circle from the Layering Circles Dies so that the shape is a Hybrid look. The waves were created from the left over section when cutting the stitched scallop die from the Penned Flowers. I used two of these offcuts off-set. I did give them a bit of ink on the Balmy Blue card with the blending brush and the coordinating ink. The sails of the little boat were paper pieced using Crumb Cake and Real Red card. The lifebuoy was a leftover element from the new amazing kit range ‘You Are My Anchor’ and the star fish, and seagull stamps creates the interest on the base card and the anchor also comes from the stamps in this fabulous little kit.
The key to this fold is the element that creates the ‘Tent’ section. The width of the card in this case 15.5cm x 6cm creates this clever stand. However just measure your card’s width and use this with the 6cm. Using the same colour card as the card base is also key to a neat looking card from all angles.
The piece is scored along the 6cm section at 1.5cm, 3cm & 4.5cm, then fold in half along the 3cm score and then fold the other two scorelines back the opposite direction to form an M (or W depending on which way up you look at it)
You can use additional 1.5cm scorelines on a piece of card deeper than the 6cm I’ve used. This can create a deeper look to your card, and make the inside have a more 3D look with foreground and background, however it then probably won’t fold flat enough to go into a standard envelope so be aware of this.
Both of these samples feature blending ink inside the card at the top half to create the look of a blue sky. The Winter card uses the snow hills in the Penguin Place stamp set to create a 3D look. My final Sample has two snow hills and some additional trees to add depth. I’ve also added in the Biggest Wish stamps for that fussy cut cursive Sentiment, I’m struggling to put that stamp set down right now!
