Happy Birthday For GDP #310

Sketch Challenge Orientation Change.

Sketches are such great ways to start our creative juices flowing, and they make so many different looking cards, just by changing up colours and stamp sets. Sometimes though looking at a sketch and keeping the elememts but changing the orientation can really give you a totally different take. When I enter an inspiration challenge and all the cards entered look very similar then I get a little bit rebellious and look at how I can use the sketch elements but make my card look different to the others, this is often when I choose to flip it.

Just a 90 degree turn and we have a portrait card with the rectangular panel top to bottom, perfect for a large sentiment. Enter the Happiest of Birthdays stamp set and that oh so dreamatic ‘Wishing You The Happiest Of Birthdays’ stamp. I loved this stamp for such a long time, yet have only just added it to my collection. Good things come to those that wait and at last it’s mine!

The Birch background stamp really added some much needed texture to the Basic White sentiment panel and worked so well with these pretty birds from the Free as a Bird stamp set.

The base card is Grey Granite and the Birch stamp was Inked with Crumb Cake. My sentiment was stamped in Memento.

I used Stampin’ Blends, our alcohol markers to colour my birds. They come in many of our Stampin’ Up! colours and each pack of two (£8.50) has a light and dark of that colour to add tones and shades to your colouring. Here I also used the fabulous Colour Lifter that is just £4.25 and allows for creating hilights and fabulous colouring effects. I decided to add some Grey Granite Blend to the white that I didn’t attempt to trim when I fussy cut out the birds. This prevented those areas standing out quite so much and helped them blend in a bit more.
